Default double parked

Hey Guys,

Today I went like every other day to pick up my brothers and sisters. due to it raining, I tried to get as close as possible to the gate. I moved up into the already full parking bay and stopped besides another car out the front of it. Now I wasnt obstructing traffic, as the road is wide on that side. Now As i was parked, A police car drove past and didnt stop, does this mean he didnt fine me?? Also is it considered double parking if Im sitting in the car with the scar switched on?? technically im not parked then?? Because as he went passed me i pulled out and continued driving behind him then turned off on a street.

Im a red p plater and a 2 demerit & 265 dollar fine for double parking isnt the best thing to happen right now :(

Oh im in sydney, if there are seperate rules for different states?

You'll probably have to wait and see if you get a fine in the post but it's unlikely I would think, chances are if it was pouring rain when he drove past he may not have even noticed you, if it really worries you then learn from it and don't do it again, and yes, even if the car is still running it would be classed as being double parked

I wouldn't stress too much over it mate, but I would be careful in the future because the laws on parking are pretty strict, especially around schools.

I don't think there are any demerit points for parking are there?

As RUSS has stated. You're stressing over nothing. If coppers are going to fine you for this, they'll hand you the ticket in person, not in the mail.

The only ones that won't hand you a ticket in person are the council.

Look at it this way - to fine you, it would need to be proven that you werent just sitting there waiting for a park, like millions of other motorists do every day of the year.

He didn't want to get out in the rain or stop and book you cos it was lunch time and he was on his way to Maccas. Learn from it and DON'T do it on a dry day otherwise you deserve anything you get. And remember No Stopping means exactly that in NSW. And a NO Standing sign means no stopping unless for the purpose for picking up or dropping off. Often councils patrol school zones before and after school and all they need to do is send the fine out. They will/should have photo evidence of the offence.

No you probably wont cop a fine, but if two cars are parked side by side it's double parking !!

He can get you for obstructing traffic at worse(happend to me) but you will not receive demerit points. (fine was $60 in Melbourne hope it helps).

On the plus side if he didn`t wind down his window and say anything you should be fine. i got flashing lights and was told i was parked unsafe.

in nsw the only way to get demerits is stopping in a no stopping zone inside a school zone

Argh double parking.... Just be careful mate because there's people like me who drive EB's only worth $1000 so if we find ourselves in helpless situations like this we can "push" ourselves out. GT or not, blocking someone in helplessly with no regard is not on!!!

Being a p plater you'd have more adrenal function than most drivers on the road meaning that you could park/unpark your car quicker than their eyes could commincate to their brains. Anyone above 35yrs of age seems to pause in motion probably due to adrenal issues, you'll see them brake 1000 times up a hill on the Princes when they should simply be cruising, you'll see them straighten up over 20 times to reverse out of a dead straight driveway, indicate whilst already shifting into the turning lane, 5 second brain lag. So you wouldn't have stood out at all, what seems like 30 seconds to you is a 10th of a second to them. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Ah. So can we assume that you've left the P plate era behind but haven't reached the Walking Frame age of 35 yet?

Y are unlikely to get booked cops rarely issue parking infringements in NSW now it is mainly rangers but you do need to understand 1 thing
I drive a school bus and while car drivers think they are leaving plenty of room we need far more roon than cars. I am constantly frustrated by unthinking parents blocking access to get their kids as close to the gate as possible.
also double parking near a school causes a blind spot a kid can run out from so as hard as it is make them walk tak shor distance to you
