The Alfa GTV6 had gearbox at rear trans axle years ago..
because they dont need to, they sell enough cars at it is, and can progressivly add things like rear mounted gearbox and a SC motor, because their main competitor isnt really putting up a battle in the sales race.
if hsvs sales started falling, then they would implement these things faster, but they dont need too, they are making enough money and sleeping comfortably at night knowing they are the leader in australian performance cars.

i dont see the point either as the ve is 50:50 weight so this would just cause more weight/engineering issues, UNLESS, they plan or releasing a SC V8 that will somehow eigh more and casue the chasis to be inbalanced towards the front, hence the push for a rear mounted gears..

I remember years ago HSV looked at using transaxles (I think in the VY's or VZ's) with paddles on the steering wheel. I was gonna cost them to much to build though. Though there budget is a lot bigger these days.
