It seems the Ford product is getting better and better. By the end of next year when this is released FoA should be in a strong position.

The new Ford Escape will be based on the Ford Vertrek Concept that was unveiled at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The production model will be revealed for the first time at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show in November before going on sale overseas from early next year.

The 2012 Escape is expected to hit Australian showrooms around the end of next year. It will continue to be called Escape in Australia, the US and other markets, while a number of European countries will call it Kuga.

Through its blog The Ford Story, the manufacturer says the 1.6-litre EcoBoost model will be more economical than the current Escape Hybrid under highway driving conditions.

Ford currently offers three different tunes of the 1.6- litre EcoBoost around the world, with power ranging from 110kW to 134kW, and torque peaking at 270Nm. The engines can be found in the Ford Focus, Mondeo, Volvo S60, and other vehicles.

The 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine is likely to be the 149kW/300Nm variant – the same engine currently offered in the Mondeo in Australia, and a similar construction to the four-cylinder turbocharged unit that will join the Falcon line-up from early next year.

Ford has also confirmed a 2.5-litre petrol engine will also be offered (likely to be targeted at the US market), along with a 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine, expected to be the 120kW/340Nm unit shared with the Focus and Mondeo.

Six-speed automatic and manual transmissions will be offered throughout the Escape range.

The Vertrek Concept’s designer, Kemal Curic, revealed earlier this year that 80 per cent of his design would come to life in the 2012 Ford Escape, which means the sleek concept gives us a good idea of what to expect from the production model.

The all-new model will replace the outdated ZD Escape currently on sale in Australia. The old SUV is built on the Ford CD2/Mazda GF platform, which was used to underpin the Mazda 626 back in 1998.

The $28,990 Escape is currently the poorest selling vehicle in Ford Australia’s passenger car/SUV range. Although sales of the ageing compact SUV have increased 23 per cent this year, the Escape is labouring with just a 2.5 per cent share of its segment, less than the Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Great Wall X240.

Small SUV's are a rapidly growing market that Ford need a serious competitor in now.

New Escape can't come soon enough.

New Escape with Ecoboost would be very nice, hope they don't ruin it by making the rear storage area to small the #1 reason we bought our current XLT Escape was our dog comfortably fits in the back with room for a few other items.

Yeah nice. But you know what is getting my goat at the moment...why is it so hard to get a manual diesel Ford, actually many companies that Im sure have them in Europe dont offer them here. Citroen (C5 wagon), Skoda (Octavia), Peugeot 4007, VW Passat Wagon all offer auto diesels but no manual!

You cant even get a manual TDi Focus Titanium..what the...we need a wagon/hatch thing to do the daily duties with kids. We both want a manual and a Tez is overkill at the moment (wait until they are old enough to want to go camping, sports etc).

Very annoying.

Current Kuga offers 6-speed manual, 6-speed auto and also DSG Powershift...

Looking at this, the new Mondeo mockups and the new Ranger, its pretty apparent that Falcon/Terry will be killed internally by their own brother and sister products.

No, it doesn't have to work that way. Look at Toyota, they have RAV4 (which is much bigger than the original), Kluger and Prado all having a stab at SUV land.

More variety brings in more customers. So what if they come to look at Mondeo and buy Falcon or vice versa.

Good looking cars will get people in the door, an attractive sticker price will get them thinking and a drive of any Ford should have them sold.

Buh? You can get a Skoda diesel manual, Scout with the 103kw, and Octavia RS with the 125kw

I look at it very differently to you. I think by having all of these great and exciting products at a dealership that it will bring new people to the brand. It might even bring more people to falcon because they can see it up close and it might even change opinions. Obviously Falcon and Territory will have to evolve and offer what their European counterparts do.

If only Ford can get there service departments to an acceptable level with customer service then I don't see why more people wouldn't come over to the Ford brand.
