Keep in mind... Why do most people sell their car ???
Because there is some money to be spent on it... So don't expect to buy a second hand car in top nick.. Cars like most things require maintenance to keep in good working order.. I've seen many times a reasonably good car traded in for a lemon or a latter car in worse condition mechanically...

Get a problem solver (32 inch baseball bat) and take to it.
At the end of the day buddy just spend some more money to fix the issues and move forward. otherwise sell it and take a bath on the sales price. |

Unfortunately a car that old (EA = 20+ yrs) is not going to be perfect.
Did you take it for a test drive before you bought it? It's a bit unfair to call it a lemon... More so you weren't aware it it's problems after 20 yrs of wear and tear. Spend a few dollars on it to get it fixed. EA's are cheap to fix and if she's still going now, she'll keep going for a bit longer yet.

I have read through both your threads is this the actual situation:
1) You owned an EA that caught alight. 2) You ran out and bought another EA privately. 3) The second EA does not seem to go as well as your old one. Is this what the whole story is about? |

You bought an EA and you want to complain?
FFS, ring some towing mob and ask them to take it away for you. What’s the current market value on one of those things, 50 bucks? Instead of asking for advice on the car, you should be asking yourself why you bought a 20 year old car and expected it to be perfect. The EA was a piece of crap when they were new, unlike a fine wine, they don’t get better with age.

back on topic, buy a newer car, or just fix what you have. I suggested a few things in your other thread to check. Doesn't seem like you're interested?

I had (silly me) an EA with CFI for about 4yrs... while it was grossly underpowered, had some 250,000km, it ran ok other then a dead fuel pump, a cracked radiator and the over flow bottle which broke..... I still didnt mind it and tried to hide its bland interior taxi look with a bit of colour (looking back black and red highlights probably wasnt that "cool"?)

I had an EA Fairmont Ghia 5 speed manual which I bought new in 1989. I drove it for about 250,000km until its aircon died and had to be converted to the new non FNC gas so I sold it.
It broke a lot and I spent a lot on it, probably far more than I should but it was the last manual Fairmont Ghia and my only option was auto or XR6/8 which is the E series had a very povvo interior compaired to Ghia (EB GTs were double the price of a Ghia). In saying that, they are now very old (older than the thread starter) and were buggy and agricultural compared to later models (like a BA1 compaired to a BF2). Sell/wreck it and buy a later model, it will be a lot cheaper and better in the long run.... |

In Queensland you get a 1 business day cooling off period for the purpose of a test drive and/or inspection. If you've taken delivery of the vehicle to go home the cooling off period doesn't apply

they are coming tomorrow to take it back and give me my monies back... my mummy had a nice chat with his mummy and they gave in and they are driving the two hours to collect it on a car trailer
how ever. me and dad checked the timing, was advanced as all ****, set that, made it heaps better, but it's still **** compared to my old EA Spack, replace the fuel filter and air cleaner with those from my old EA (both of which are less then 10,000kms old) made little to no difference so they can have it back, i really don't want to be mucking around with it at this point in time

Geez I would put up with an atrocious lemon before I ever stooped to the point of asking my mummy to sort out the nasty car boy
