sudden change in fuel consumption

basically, my au3 forte
has been getting close to 500kms to a tank of petrol for the last couple of months, i dont take much notice of what i put in it, e10/95, doesnt seem to matter which, no significant difference.

but the last two tanks of fuel ive struggled to get 250/300, both tanks were from seperate servos.

its running as averagely has it ever has. its always had a weird miss at idle, and sometimes its a bit lazy off the mark, but its been like that since i got it so i doubt that its the cause.

really the fuel economy was one of its few redeeming qualities... without that i doubt it will survive much longer.

any ides on possible causes?

Have you changed your normal routes?

all the usuals - coils, plugs, leads etc. Maybe 02 sensors. AU's are a fickle bloody thing, they seem to let go with no warning.

clean the throttle body change plugs and leads also clean the air filter.

its letting you know everything needs a clean.

clean these first mate i used to do it every month as routine and never stopped getting the 500's to the tank..

i have started working two jobs, but if anything the extra distance travelled should be more economical than before, as its virtually a straight run as opposed to a million sets of lights.

o2 sensor was my first thought. can they be tested?

great info there, cheers for that.

ive been meaning to throw some new discs and pads at it for ages now, has that dreaded warped disc steering wheel shimmy, so i might just order new plugs and leads/coil at the same time, spend a weekend doing some maintenance on the old slapper.

O2 sensor most likely candidate as it was sudden sometimes will throw a fault code but often not. if the sensor is more than 120 to 150Ks old replace it regardless

speedo is showing 180kms, dunno if the o2 sensor has ever been changed.
