Smile Top Gear Spotted Filming in China

TheTop Gear crew has been spotted filming in China. James May and Jeremy Clarkson have caused a stir in Beijing as they take to the wheel in the newest vehicles available from Chinese automakers.

Judging from the photos that have surfaced so far, it looks like the intrepid duo spent some time in exquisite pieces of engineering like the JAC Binyue and the Greatwall Haval M2, while also taking a look at some of the country's vehicles that infringe on the copyrights of pay tribute to cars manufactured around the globe. That meant taking a gander at hardware like the Smart ForTwo-inspired Shuanghuan Noble, the BMW X5-flavored Shuanghuan SCO and the Mini Cooper-themed Lifan 320.

The episode is likely to surface next season, and we're betting it will feature plenty of insightful commentary from all three of the hosts. If this seems like the setup for yet another international incident, you'd be right. But isn't that why we keep watching? Head over to Car News China for a look at the full gaggle of photos.

Must before their Perth TG Show..

Looking forward to the news paper articles -

Jeremy Clarkson instigates WW3 with China due to racist and derogatory comments about their car making industry

Jeremy Clarkson has brought the wrath of China, the worlds biggest military might on the UK while reviewing their latest vehicular creations..

Jeremy had this to say - "Don't worry about it, they can't drive and their cars are deathtraps. I'm sure most of their army will kill themselves on the drive over to invade. We'll just chuck a few round abouts and one way streets in their way, that will confuse them for sure! They'll end up invading Belgium instead - Great!. Of course, this is only if busses and lorries don't get to them first"

Thats gold....although no doubt it will haunt him later in life when they start making decent cars. Could be 6 feet under by then.

Can't wait! I doubt China will ever make 'decent' cars, given the labour rates and slave-mentality of companies over there.

Remember when people said that about South Korea? Hyundais will always be cheap crap. Nobody ever took them seriously. Then they offered 10 yr warranties and pretty high tech cars.

I remember and I also helped deliver the first of the new X3 Excels in 1994 and have worked at Kia, but I still don't find them to be that great. There were a few dangerous recalls (only a few years ago) with a variety of Kia models. Even those two makes still have a while to go to be comparable to the budget European models.

There's still a big difference between China and Korea that you have to factor in though and I didn't see the Koreans imitating other makes either.

You better hope they can ..... 4 FORD factories have been commissioned and more makers are investing everyday. Who owns and controls Volvo? I would say they would be decent? Hyundai and Kia are killing the market and will not be going backwards in quality and price and have got this far in such a small time.

Cant believe people still bag them out (Hyundai & Kia) and think that China are not serious in making higher quality product .... they did purchase over 18 million new vehicles last year. They have the resources and if they don't they import the knowledge.

I am sure TG will have a blast though with some of their weirder concoctions

That is true, but the Japanese did. Remember that first Lexus LS400 that everybody thought was a Mercedes? Well the new ones appear to be more BMW-inspired. I think the new Sonata, Optima, Genesis, and Equus all look like they are really good cars. My wife has a 2002 Sonata V6 that she has had since new. It has 120,000 miles (nearly 200,000 kms). The only things that have been replaced are the TPS (throttle position sensor - 4 yrs ago), and an alternator (1 yr ago). The car looks very good inside and out, and holds its age better than a lot of other cars from that year - keeping in mind that we are in the Rocky Mountains, with a lot of snow, ice, and salt.

On the subject of Top Gear, I am looking forward to the India Christmas special.

People said exactly the same thing about Japanese cars , motorcycles , cameras and electronics etc in the 60's . This is exactly the attitude the Chinese hope the west will have . I can absolutely 100% guarantee you the powers that be in Ford , G.M. , Honda , Sony , Samsung , LG etc etc will not be that stupid though .
