Car alarm? I take it your car is old? Most cars on the road today either aren't worth stealing or have an immobiliser.

Your BF XR6 already has some kind of alarm and an immobiliser. half a dozen year old falcons aren't exactly target number 1 for thieves anyway.

Quite a few notices of a nice E-series being stolen come to mind in the not too distant past.
If the car is desireable in any way, I think its worthwhile adding some protection, even if it's just a simple hidden kill switch.

It's acceptable , speak to your installer and decide how far you want to go , sms messaging and gps notification are very affordable these days

i would have a look at the products from these companies before you buy that Python unit.

http://visionsecurity.jp/en/systems/index.html

http://www.mongoose.com.au/vehicle-security.aspx

http://pfk.uk03cs.blueboxonline.com
/?matrixalarms&global[categoryISbb_content_categoriesID]=510

http://www.dynamco.com.au/products_alarms.php

i used to fit alarms and immobilises from most suppliers for several years ( out of the game for about 5 years now) and i would concider these companies at the top of the pile.

some of the must haves you should be looking for are , battery back up, all black wiring, hidden/ sealed wiring connections, meets Australian standards. a tilt censer will set the alarm off if the car is jacked up, a shock censer will pick up someone banging on the car ( eg; trying to break a door lock or glass ) , glass censer will pick up the sound of breaking glass, ultra sonics will pick up the movement of a solid object within the censer`s field, (eg; some reaching into a convertible) .

any of these companies will be able to supply you with a high quality security system that integrates with your cars factory system so that you dont need extra remotes etc.

Dave, whats your thoughts on Viper?

Im looking at getting the new model on my XR.

I had one a few yrs back on my import. Had the little key pad with remote start and Turbo Timer... Apparently now they got an iPhone app aswel which interfaces with the alarm anywhere.
Im not sure on all of your above but I do remember the viper had a shock sensor on it. A stiff kick with a steal cap boot to the tyres would set it off.

i used to fit a lot of viper alarms at one time...... hmmmmmm

i stopped using them in the late `90s because they were way over priced , the service from the australian suppliers was terrible to non existant, ( warranty claims mostly got lost and even orders for new systems would often not be sent , made for some very unhappy customers) products did not meet aust standards and most were pretty easy to bypass. from what i`ve seen most of their products havent improved that much. ( still using easily traced colored wireing with exposed plugs which make them very easy to bypass. unless a lot of effort is put into hiding the unit during installation they can actually make the car easier to hot wire then the stock wiring.

"viper", "hornet", "python", and a few other brands are all made by the american company "DEI" . one thing that the americans are good at is marketing, their systems have lots of bells and whistles that make them sound good but do little or nothing to protect your car from theft. they would do better to put a bit more effort into making there car security systems work as security systems and not gimmick boxs.

the australian or south african made brands would provide some of the best car security systems available.

the shock censer is the most commonly used of the censers and will come in most alarm kits. the other censers you may need to add as extras.
