Uhm, nothing new here.
Ford/Holden negotiate with government. Government gives money, so that jobs remain. Journos get something to talk about so their jobs remain, too. So, really, the only negative from this is that some journos keep their jobs. |

Journo saying Holden will spend over 1 billion dollars lol.
No chance. They go absolutely burned last time with their billion dollar baby/millstone around their neck. Spent so much on developing the thing they have absolutely no money to do any sheetmetal updates 6 years later, with none due until 8 years after it was launched, the VF in 2014. It was a good idea at the time, but continually dragged them down year after year when sales figures continued to drop. Spend will be considerably less no doubt. |

Best way to recoup R&D costs... don't do any more R&D. Don't forget, a lot of the R&D on the VE also went in to the Zeta platform, which is used in a few cars, so there's more than one line making up the costs.
It's been selling so what does it matter if they don't do updates, they're still getting paid for them. |

Sales have continued to decrease year after year for Commodore, and sales would be well below their original projections for the life of the Zeta platform. This is the reason the VF wasn't introduced this year and will only now surface in 2014. They may be getting paid for them but they will be losing money now that sales have dropped so much, and they have thousands of unsold cars sitting around. They are heading to the point Ford did earlier this year, and down days are just around the corner for Holden. |

now you can buy the "holden" volt. cough chevy. straight from Detroit.
Its funny 2 weeks ago i was reading about chevy volts driver selling the cars back to the dealers because they explode after a side impact, but seems they slap a holden badge on it and sell it to those Aussies. |
