I seem to call one of the Chargers that lost a loooong time in the pits because the wheel nuts couldn't be undone...this was in the days when race cars were modified street cars instead of something that only bears a passing resemblance to the car it's based on, and actually had five wheel nuts to undo to change tyres.

Not to mention the fact they liked a drink...with an E49 you paid for your fun...my VH Charger with a 265 hemi, E49 cam, some head work, E49 design extractors, and 500 Holley two barrel that put out an easy 270hp-plus used to drink over fifty bucks of fuel a week...when petrol was 36 cents a liter...

that was 71 where moffat qualified 2 seconds ahead of everyone and a fair bit more of everyone else. they were never going to win the race with or without problems
if moff had have gone flat out for the race, he could have won by 4 laps instead of one. considering the reliability that year, if he had the ego of 2 other icons, it would have been the greatest realistic margin ever

having said that the valiants were very good cars, and the 6 pack was every bit as good as the ford i6 is today. which one is better - possibly only personal opinion could decide

until recently, us ford fans have only had 6 models to get excited over, be generous and let us have our distant memories

Well if you don't appreciate this car - don't enter the contest (hopefully giving my entry a better chance).
Hope it comes with a kidney belt & back brace as my old XU1 used to have a pretty "firm" ride. Colourwise, I think they could have found a better one than purple - but no doubt, they are trying to keep it authentic.
Would love to see them do a small Ford in future. Maybe a Lotus powered Escort or Cortina ????

if you read my first post i said i would not enter so some one who does appreciate it can - unfortunately it will probably go to someone to on sell it

and yes i do not appreciate it because i want an engineered car, not a fabricated one. a 351 in a shopping trolley would be both fast and fun - doesn't mean it is good though

if i want push out rear windows with zero refinement, i will get a 63 consul cortina, not a 70's model torana. me, I like the whole package, hence i drive a ford

you are too young to understand - growing up in the 70's, you were either ford or the other brand - you loved one and hated the other. for those caught up in that love/hate relationship it will never change

should we love the mitsubishi 380 more than any holden, because that was possibly more australian than any holden

It's funny you should mention that because I think it was Wheels that did a comparison of the Australian made cars a few years back (when Mitsubishi made cars here) and which manufacturor used more Australian made components and I think it was Mitsubishi that used more local parts than Holden. My memory doesn't serve me correctly so it could have been Toyota that used more local content.

It's pretty amusing though, considering the XR8 next year will be reborn with the same spec engine as the FG GT, could you imagine being a HSV owner forking out all that money on a brand new GTS, then pulling up to the lights next to a FH XR8 and then sitting side by side all the way to 100 and beyond
Even more embarrasing would be the lower spec variants of the VF in HSV's stable getting whopped by a factory XR8.

Hey, now we're talking! A Lotus Cortina would be a beauty, and when was the last time you saw a good original RS2000 Escort?

If people keep squabbling amongst themselves rather than sticking together, regardless if you drive a ricer, bogan mobile, or eurotrash, we'll all be the ones in the firing line when the greenies get their way, we'll all be driving electric cars or 800cc 2 cylinder engines.

They not really ugly but a shocker to drive in every day traffic with the lumpy motors and rusting out in most places. Several friends had them 2 mocks and a original and all were not that pleasant to drive or be a passanger in. A XR5 Focus or Mazda MPS would flog them in driving experience but don't have a Aussie racing or cult history.

For me owning that XU-1 wouldn't be a problem at all. In there day they were very qiuck and nimble too. The GT's had the outright speed but the toranas made up time over the top and down through forest elbow. Just like today it was about tactics. Regardless of which brand you supported you have to admire the drivers of that era. 6 or 7 inches of rubber a ****y rollcage (by todays standards) and factory brakes, all at 10/10ths. on tracks that had little or no margin for error. Those blokes had balls, and there is no way these cars should be compared to the modern day.
Another reason i'd love to own it I could do 90% of the servicicing myself the other 10% having the triples tuned every couple of months LOL
