Default Sleeping in an AU

I'm thinking about a road trip and how I might be able to sleep in my AU. I've had naps of an hour or so before in the seat but I'm nearly 2 metres tall so it's not really quality sleep.

If I had a wagon it would be easy, but I have a sedan... then I got to thinking, wonder if I could put the back seats down, and fit my legs (in a sleeping bag) through the porthole into the boot. Anyone done this?

Weird thread, I know, but where else do I find a bunch of guys who might sleep in their AUs?

Done that on a road trip from the 'gong to Cairns in an EB renter back in the early 90s rotating drivers every four hours (pilot strike - what ya gonna do?) - three of us all 6'4" plus. No reason couldn't do it in a AU. Key thing to make it work was head in cabin, feet in boot and a cut down single bed foam matress with some minor packing under the feet.

i don`t think i could do it , i am restless ......roll around like a loaded holden ute , i am to wide to turn with legs in boot......
fairly big dude as well, i have done some road trips and sleeps in the AU, when on my own snooze in passenger seat is preferable layed right back, if not can still manage a decent snooze in drivers seat.
pillows are the your friend i find, pack 3 or 4 good pillows around you, especially one for that hard head rest !.....

Mate of mine was 6"3, slept in a 2 door '78 Escort in the carpark of a pub, had a heap of sleeping material (doonas, pillows from previous excursions) woke up better that all of us sleeping in our swags on the grass.

Folded all of the seats down and made a castle (the plick)

It is amazing what one can achieve when needed

I did it twice at Mildura speedway pits in my XR6
What I did was to put the seats forward, legs in boot rest on seats and centre console covered by many pillows

ended up pretty good
but the best was 2008 there with dads BF II XR6 turbo ute with thick mattresses in the tub under the stars for four nights during Australian super sedan title

I've slept in my car a few times, back seats down, feet in boot - bring something to lay on as the angle between the back of the seats and the boot is a bit uncomfortable, and bring a few pillows too.

I slept in my TE50 a couple times on trips back to Albury, not the most comfortable i guess. But the missus loved it and fell asleep at the drop of a hat.
