After doing serveral tentsioner jobs this month i thought i would show u what can happen if this is left for too long..
In this picture you can see one guide has exploded into many small pieces which we are still trying locate missing parts without stripping down his motor.. with not much luck so far. Anyone good at Jigsaws?? This car is a 2003 GT with 165,000 km on the clock.

We did another car just the other day.. again broken guide but not as bad as the pics above.. metal guide broken, broken bolt, and bits of plastic again .. all bits were found so we just replaced broken bits, Metal tentsioners and put new mellings oil pump in as customer requested after we has to remove the oil pump due to the broken bolt..
The weird thing with this car it wasn't the normal tentsioner noise that we heard.. the car was a canidate to still have plastic ones in it ... Well the car did.. the rubber O-rings were still together but the broken guide was causing the noise.

I have noticed ever since I got my ute back that it feels a lot stronger/safer. I'm not sure whether it is just me knowing that a tensioner isn't going to shatter on me, but it definitely feels better than before. Is this possible or is it all in my head haha?

Theo, are there any "stronger" aftermarket guides out there to your knowledge? My fixed guide broke into 3 pieces on the drivers side around the bolt. The SVT 5.4 guides use a 3 bolt system rather than the Boss 2 bolt guides. Is there anything else out there?

factory guides is all you need .. there is no problem when the metal tentsioners are fitted as the chains can not slap the guides and break them
