Is this all the SUV many need ? 129 kw's and 420 nm's of torque and that remarkable fuel efficiency. Frankly I'm surprised Mazda can make a soft roader that efficient and it probably has pretty good performance as well. A bit of a game changer in the SUV market, what do you think ? |

Im still suss on these cars for family use. I guess its ok for around town but when you actually need to put stuff in them your pretty limited. Same story for the Tiguan and ill be interested to see if the Kuga is any different.
The Tez kills them for practicality. So you look at the fuel consumption difference, which would be about 3-4L/100...say you do 500k's per week..then 20L per week at $1.50 is $30 p/w..$1560 per year. Ill take the Tez thanks.

The Mazda 6 diesel wagon has been 5.9 for a few years. They are talking a 20% improvement on that for the next model which I assume will use the same motor as the cx5. That would make it about 4.7.

CX-5 is a great move and it will be interesting to see what changes Mazda makes to CX-7 and CX-9
BUT: I will say this, ultimately the Ecosport, Kuga, Territory and Everest will be a killer combination for Ford. Let's see how Ford's sales are looking when we add a few more players to the mix. |

Cx5 is replacing cx7. They will be sold side by side initially though.

The CX7 diesel is manual only (im told)... Waste of time.

Looking forward to the release of this model. Those figures are very enticing and will be very hard to beat.
But in the 55k category, there is still some competition. It may come down to features and how it handles off road. Either way its still a win for the consumer.

Most diesels have plenty of torque = autos are good for.
Yes in the case of a 4 cylinder petrol manuals win, but in the case of a diesel with a large amount of torque the auto is the GO.

I think it is silly that the Diesel is only offered via a manual in the Maz 6. |

There will be a six speed auto mated to this engine. In fact it says it in the link.

Hmm I drive a TDI golf a fair bit and I can understand how an auto would be ok, but in that so so narrow torque band it is fun changing cogs.
But for me as soon as you have more than oe kid these cars go out the window, Id be taking a TX TDi before something like this even if the Tez was lacking in some gizmo's...plus the TX would be $10k cheaper which more than makes up for a few years of the fuel usage difference.

Can’t wait to see this engine in the Mazda6 … I think it’s coming out sometime next year … Considering the CX5 is probably much heavier and less aero efficient I would expect the Mazda6 SkyActiv-D to achieve 5ltr/100 km …

^^^^ Thats what people were saying when they introduced the current model Mazda 3 and I don't think it is having much trouble selling.
Personally I think some of Mazda's latest models and those coming soon look very very good. I can't wait for the next model 6 to come out. So far the concepts look great. |

I actually think that styling is not as progressive as their previous efforts, tame even.

I agree the Tezza's a fine vehicle, versatile and great handling but my gut tells me many families are really looking for vehicles with fuel consumption of 5 point something and in that respect this SUV appears to break new ground. That it appears to offer strong torquey performance with such fuel efficiency is certain to add to its appeal IMO. |

I have always wondered if the Skyactiv Deisels are just rebadged Ford Duratorq TDCI's, seeing this engine is a 2.2L which Ford seemed to have standardised on recently, I think a birt more investigation is needed.
Nope I was wrong, it appears to be just a coincidental capacity... Alloy block, lighter internals, weight reductions across the board and that super low compression ratio.

Do you have kids Shav? Have you sampled a Tiguan yet? The VW is dead set useless when it comes to practicability.

My point of practicality lies with making sure I can fit my bikes in the back and it still is able to take me and the mrs camping every now and again.

Yeah no worries, for me the Tigaun offers no more versatility than a Golf..its got awd but you dont really need that in a small car. This is the main downfall of these medium crossovers, they are fine if you single/couple/one kids, but IMO as soon as you have two they are just to small in the back.

I have also considered a Golf too. But whatever the choice, if it can't fit my bikes, then it's crossed off the list. Anyway, back on topic. Does anyone know what kind of interior features this CX5 will house etc?
