Default Pinging on light throtle

Hi all, my AU Forte pings really badly when cruising at 70+ km/hr whenever I go up a hill. If I accelerate harder it stops but if the throttle is only down a little (or on cruise control) its bad.

I just serviced the car, changed plugs, air filter, tightened inlet man bolts, etc. Fuel filter was done about 20,000ks ago. Injectors never been cleaned but not sure if that'll be the problem cos it goes away if I accerlerate.

Anyone got any idea's?

Thanks.

You should try a different fuel.

The mtr sounds as if marbles are rattleing in a jar. Mainly happens when a load is put onto the mtr such as going up hills. You need to put a higher octane fuel in it to stop it or on mtrs with dissy retard it a bit.

I fill up at Shell, BP, Caltex, whatever is closest when I need fuel so its not like its the same servo all the time. I just use regular unleaded like I always have and its only been pinging recently.

Premium is a last resort simply due to the cost, but I spose its cheaper than a new engine.

I would check your exhaust gasket - sounds like a split gasket to me. It's pretty rare for an I6 to ping if the motor is still stock.

If the mtr is overheating it would cause it to ping as well. Ive never encounted it in a car with injection only on the older carby cars with cams that are fitted with large lifts & duration & running low octane fuel.

Thanks for the advice.

Might chuck an exh gasket on to be safe.

Motor is stock and doesn't overheat.
