Capitalizing on the allure of attractive models for automotive advertising is anything but a recent phenomenon. Inventing a supermodel, on the other hand, is one of the more inspired tactics we've stumbled across in recent memory.
According to the marketing gurus at Adweek, Ford has placed a full-page advertisement in the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition that includes a beautiful blue Mustang posing alongside what appears to be an equally beautiful and scantily clad model named Dalena Henriques. A quick Google search on her name, not surprisingly, brings up dalenahenriques.com as the top result. Here's where things get a bit tricky. It seems Dalena Henriques may not be a real person at all. A visit to her website shows the stunning brunette in pose after pose with the 2013 Mustang, and her face is never fully in the frame. The Mustang, though, is front and center in every single image. Clever, Ford. Very clever. My comment.. and we get fingers walking!!!!

Classic!
I got a laugh out of all the photo captions... "I'm excited - can you see it in my face?" "I love the new Mustang - you can see it in my eyes" (a shot of the car and her waistline) Good job Ford!

Does that mean under a Global one Ford that the walking fingers and Dalena will appear in an add together?
That could be interesting...... |

Very clever. If only Ford Australia's advertising blokes had even a tiny fraction of Ford North America's advertising guys talents then maybe things wouldn't be so bad.
Some of the ads they do over there are brilliant. The Mustang field of dreams ad with a computer generated Steve McQueen is one that comes to mind. |

Well, Ford doesn't do its own ads. Ford hires an ad agency. I'm sure it's the same way in Australia.
J. Walter Thompson was Ford's US ad agency for decades, but I don't know if they still are. I can't find a picture of it on the web, but the ad that got me hooked on Mustangs was for a white 1984 GT convertible. It was an overhead shot. The interior was replaced with a swimming pool, and a gorgeous woman in a bathing suit (LeAnn Hunley, who was a soap opera actress at the time) was reclining in it. I sent in $4 and got a poster of it. That poster still hangs in my house!

Because you remember an ad, doesn't mean it persuaded you to actually buy the product or service in question - it might be because it was just really bad, which is what I would argue was the case with that particular Ford campaign. I don't have any K-Tel products either. Now if you are talking the original BA launch campaign, that is a different story, even the newspaper ads for the XD Falcon were really well done and stood out back in the day. |

true, but an ad you remember is generally better than one you don't remember.
also, i wouldn't expect you to have anything positive to say. |

A bad ad can create negative thoughts and might turn away a prospective buyer. |
