Default Rear Demister

i have a 96 Ef GLI and having problems with the rear demister, the fuse is fine but when i push the button nothing happens, is there supposed to be a light behind the button or a light on the dash or something, even replaced the button is there some common fault for these that i should be looking for?

check the rear window and see if the plugs are plugged into the points on the rear windshield sometime they fall out.

There should be a light on the dash that lights up. When you turn on the demister, you should hear a relay click in the fuse box. If you cant hear that it could be the relay. Check for voltage at the switch as well.

it sounds like your demister switch is plugged into the wrong plug?

sometimes the plugs get swapped around behind the demister switch, there is usually a spare plug there, clipped to the back of the switch surround.
this is for bench seat models for the economy/normal mode for the trans.
they dont run a console so have nowhere else to put the switch.

the dash looms suit a few different models/options.

and the worst thing too with the demister not working is you cant program new remotes for your car.
