Lightbulb LPG Tank disposal.

I've got a couple of LPG tanks laying around as was wondering how I am supposed to get rid of them. I threw one in to a car body that was getting taken away but the guy that picked up the car threw the tank out...

He didn't throw out the nice alloy bullbar that was also inside. They where supposed to come as a kinda package deal you want the car body then you can take the LPG tank.

Yeah they need to be sure they arent sealed or have stuff in them otherwise when they go into the shredder at Simsmetal it will blow the machine apart

I might try cut them in half tomorrow. I'll just have to make 100% sure they are empty 1st, otherwise don't look towards Perth tomorrow about 11.00am. You might see a large mushroom cloud.

Actually, I might just try the LPG place down the road 1st.

Under no circumstances should you try cutting unless it is filled with water first. I take the valve off, fill it with water and then drill two holes, one on each side while it is full of that water. They will accept it after that. It only takes a single spark to ignite the residual gas and blow it up. Be careful.

Or fill it with LPG before you cut it. It wont burn above 9% concentration.

I was at the local scrappies the other day dropping a load off. As I was unloading the excavator pierced a tank full of gas, the bloke jumps out and kicks it into the middle of the track. They're bastards those tanks I said to him, he looked me dead in the eye and said "what tank?" ha ha

i worked in a scrap yard for around 6 months, gas bottles are not nice, people try and hide them but then the magnet his them they go boom let all the gas out and every one has to stop working till it clears. but 9 times out of 10 we would take them when cut but its still a fine line as people done like them even after that..

Good luck trying to get rid of it mate. I tried for a year and finally found someone to take it although they were very hesitant.

You would think that it wouldnt be that hard but its one of those items that is made by industry but know one wants to know bout them when their useful life has expired.

eBay I've sold a couple of out of date ones, I didn't get much for them but I didn't have to dispose of them

where im at a local gas fitter takes em and if your lucky and their in good nick they give you a few dollars

when you fill it ( when i did mine 4 f100's in parts to make 1 = x4 large lpg tanks ) get a good strong hose with a fitting that will match the tank 3 bucks at enzed 1st attempt a very loud frighting **** yourself poooorhh with blue flame (angle grinder) cause as much as you try to fill it with water theres a nice pocket waiting for you to cut in lol

using a saber-saw and filling them up while upright cutting at the bottom is how ive been doing them

Cut one end off neatly and hang outside, hit with a hammer handle for a nice Tibetan "Gong"

Seriously, flush, add a T piece and hook up to your compressor line - makes a great additional reserve.
