Hope it's not a repeat of the 2004 disaster.

Has even shown on the NZ quake drums.

The threat still remains for a tsunami in 28 countries.... Got friends in phuket currently who are saying water is receding at present.... After shocks are being felt too...
The earthquake was 8.6 and is one of the worlds top 10 earthquakes to hit now in 100 years
fingers crossed nothing comes from this

Mum, Dad and my sister are there now too. My friends in the US Navy say the plates moved horizontally so the likelihood of a tsunami is greatly reduced.

I'm still quite worried for them though.

No tsunami with massive waves can ever occur by a earthquake that is horiztonal
According to study and in this case its proved correct

Another massive earthquake occured today in Mexico

2012 is beginning lol. Seriously but, things mother nature wise have been pretty chaotic this last year or so. Hope it doesn't get worse. Very glad there was no major tsunami with 1000's dead.

The same with Christchurch with dozens of quakes centered east of the city off the coast for the past 18 months. No tsunamis or warnings.
Another 4.x in Wellington the other day also, which is suppose to be over due for the big one with a main fault line running thru the cbd (which is all reclaimed land).
