THEY can take the turns faster than V8 Supercars and clock 95km/h on the straights.
Extreme skateboarders are taking on the iconic Mount Panorama racetrack at Bathurst and say it's the safest place for them to race.

"When people see us on the road they think we are crazy and have a death wish," pro-skater Robert McWhinnie said.

"We're not out here to kill ourselves. We want to live to skate tomorrow."

McWhinnie is getting ready to race on the Bathurst 1000 track at the Newtons Nation Downhill Skateboarding competition next week vying for a prize pool of $20,000.

Fellow skater Cameron Kite, from Sydney's Bondi, said there was "just no other race track like it in the world".

"The track has been specifically made for racing V8 Supercars so every corner is perfect - there's corners you just won't find on the open road," Kite said.

"It's an amazing sound that the skateboard makes at 95 kays."

The Newtons Nation Downhill Skateboarding competition runs from April 27-29 and is part of the Australian leg of the IGSA World Cup Series. Event placements go towards World Cup rankings.
