Hi All,
I've got a cracked headlight on my AU XR8. Are they a regular 7" H4 insert that goes in there or do they use some odd ball mounting in the back there? I have a couple of spare H4 inserts from another car I could use to replace the broken one but would like to know if they fit before pulling it apart. Also do you need to remove the whole front bumber assembly to get them out? Anyone got a how-to for replacing headlights on these? Cheers Michael |

No they are not a regular 7" insert. Yes they have an oddball mounting.
Someone posted a link to aftermarket direct inserts a little while ago. I've replaced both inner and outers with aftermarket inserts but at the time I didn't know about the direct replacement items (or maybe they weren't available when I did them). Mind you 150w high beams are pretty damned good Yeah, front bar has to come off. I'm at work and haven't got time to hunt around but if you do a search you'll find the info edit:- a quick search found this http://www.twinlight.com.au/

Hi All,
I just spoke to the guy from Twinlight. Yes the lights are Narva and he states that on his web page. What you need is the pressed aluminium rings and clips that he makes to get them to fit. The headlights ara a regular 7" H4 and 5 3/4" H1 and they are bonded to the rings to get get them to match up with the AU mounting. He was kind enough to just sell me the rings and clips so I can do my own conversion. I will keep you posted on my progress. Cheers Michael |

He does a kit which includes all 4 lights already set up with the rings bonded in place. It comes with the plastic clips etc to fit them to your existing frames.
I found on ebay that Bayford have new complete AU XR6/8 headlight assemblies for $325 each. it looks like the twin light kit does all 4 lights for $380 so if your frames are OK... This seems like a reasonable price to replace your headlights with new units. I think he will supply them individually too. I have no connection to this company. I only found them today from this thread. I've just bought the rings to fix a busted headlight with some H4 inserts. We'll see how they work out when the frames arrive. I've got an idea I've got brewing. I'll try and post my progress on here. Yes the Cobra is mine. I've been building it on and off for years. It started as a basic body chassis kit and I've then gone on to build pretty much everything else from scratch. It's registered but off the road at the moment while I get the body work sorted. Hoping to have it back on the road for this summer and the Cobra nationals in October. Cheers Michael |
