Hello Everyone,
I have a TC Cortina with a Clevo. The motor should be a low 300hp and should run mid 12's. They are light in the rear and the car is untubbed. The Engine builder has recommended that I run a 26" x 8.5 slick. General opinion is that I should run the MT Street ET as oppossed to a full slick. Problem is, I can't get a 26 x 8.5 MT. I can get 24" which is no good for my combo or a 26"x 9.5 which is too wide for the car. Does anyone have any suggestions. The alternative is that I just go to a full slick and, as I understand I'll have to run front runners which is something I didn't want to do, one, for the extra cost and two, for the unwated attention on the street. The car currently is running radials at the front. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers. |

If you get a full slick you can use light truck tyres (cross ply or rags) for the front and have them on a spare set of factory rims so you can change after racing. Otherwise it looks like you would have to pump the guards to get the et streets under there, either way you look at it, there is going to be some extra cost that will have to be allowed for. Before you do anything I would take it for a run and see how bad the wheel spin is and what time you run.

I'm running 3.7 gears now. I did run the car on on cheap street tyres and the car just sat on the line and was then sideways. Wheel spin was so bad I ran a 17.7 on the first run. The second run I TRIED to take off easy and ran a 15.4. The third run I ran a 16's. It definately needs slicks or MT street et.s.
I don't think I can go wider than a 8.5. Cheers. |

10.91 on 205x70x14 maxxis
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...1258423&page=4 Sure the XT is heavier but making a lot more than your claimed 300hp , so a similar or greater difficulty factor.... Why don't you just go out with what you have and practice a few different techniques/tyre pressures etc , CHEAPER and a HUGE amount of satisfaction once you have got it sorted?
