Default Smartlock or SmartShield - How to tell?

Any reliable easy way to tell which one the car has in particular, this one is a 12/99 ute.
I know the simple answer is "look at the keys", but pretending for a minute you dont have keys and there are no stickers visible to tell you either way, how do you tell?

A bit of research has concluded that anything built after June 7 1999 is Smartshield.
