I just bought a 1989 KE 1.6l laser needing a motor for $100. I have also bought another 1.6l motor which looks identical in most respects except that when I looked under the rocker cover it is so clean it looks brand new. my question to anybody who knows is this. when did the 1.6 laser motor get hydraulic lifters? my dead motor has adjustable tappets and the extra one I bought has the hydraulic lifter/lash adjusters. Anybody?

Peter B - CV8 thanks for that. This would mean that I am about to install a KF 1600cc motor in my KE. I don't think there will be any issues but if anyone on these forums who sees this thread, let me know please

An old thread ... hydraulic lifters were used on all Laser/Meteor fuel injected engines. Also the cam profile was slightly different.

'Tis an old thread but I am persistant. bought the car for $100, sold it to a mechanic for $700, (his offer) and as far as I know, it is still sitting behind his workshop down Wollongong way. I now own a 1993 Telstar which is getting major suspension work in the near future. Just got timing belt, water pump, pullies and tensioner done and new tyres. Does it ever stop?
