Ok, , , what about spending $20k as a max.
I notice that the FG is very hard to get as a 6 speed under $20k. ? |

I don't want to be seen against Toyota or their Aurion/Camry here...
The Falcon and Aurion are definitely different cars, one of them is made to get you from A to B and the other is made to get you from A to B but with some fun in between. I've driven both and at the end of the day I'd be in an FG. Everyone has their own opinion but I have nothing at all against Toyota, they make (or made) great cars... |

if you think the Aurion is a boring car to drive, i'll take you for a hit
i found it much better to drive around the streets than a Falcon, the Falcon was too big and heavy and a nugget down low. once it gets going its alright, and its sooooo much more comfortabler if you have to drive over an hour, the Aurion you get a little restless in after that, and the backseat in the Aurion ZR6 forget about long drives it may come down to the models that people have driven. in my ZR6 i have no/very minimal torque steer, i always drive 1 handed i have never had the thing get away from me yet. |

I had a Aurion as a hire car, it was absolute rubbish, hated it.
No low down torque Typical FWD weirdness/tugging through the steering Fake interior look Large turning circle Floating suspension Goose neck hinges in the boot. IMMEDIATLY returned to Hertz, and they swapped it over for a BRAND NEW Toyota Rav4, now that was a nice vehicle. Falcon all-the-way, this Toyota is a poor thing for mine. I have unfortunately driven a few Aurions, as often when we book a “Falcon or equivalent,” the hire company sticks us with an Aurion.
Let’s be clear, the Aurion is simply a V6 Camry. Furthermore, in their endeavours to attain the boastful 200kw they have delivered a typical Toyota “performance” engine with comparatively little lowdown torque. Combine that with their lacklustre transmission and lack of handling, and it’s a menace. There’s nothing wrong with a Camry. If you want a roomy, well-built, reliable, safe 4-pot for your wife and kids, with good resale, then Camry is still top of the list. The 4-pot is none too shabby, and still reasonably economical. Hybrid option is interesting. In fact if you don’t want the extra size, performance, and handling of a Falcon, then the Camry is a decent family car. The Aurion is just pointless. If you want (or need) the performance that the 200kw promises, you will be sorely disappointed by the high-revving buzzbox engine, the lack of handling, and general inability to get the power to the road. I honestly would not even consider it. Looking at a sedan for the Missus, it would be Camry v Mondeo (and only because I am a Ford tragic.) For me (since I do WANT the performance of that I6) it would be the Falcon hands down. |

Aurion and the Falcon have completely different characteristics. A few years back I had a rental Aurion for two weeks while holidaying in Tasmania. We had five adults and a full set of luggage. At the time, my work vehicle was a G6E. So, I had sufficient back to back experience in both. My thoughts were thus;
*V6 engine was probably the best part of the car, but lacked bottom down torque *automatic gearbox couldn’t decide what gear it wanted to be in, and clunked and thunked all the time (30K on the odometer for a hire vehicle might have been a tough ask as well) *fuel economy was around 2l/100km worst in the Aurion than in the G6E *torque steer in the Aurion was atrocious *with five adults on board, the Aurion handled like a wet sponge, with of rolling around on its axis. It didn’t inspire any confidence in wet/windy conditions that we struck. *cruise control was pathetic, with very wide limits on the control system *dashboard lighting was such that it interfered with my night vision (way too bright and excessively “white” in colour) If you decide that you really want a Toyota and don’t need heavy towing duties, I would strongly suggest considering a Camry instead. The smaller engine allows better weight distribution and is a better match for the chassis. You don’t lose anything in cabin space and the boot is still very practical (even if it still has goose neck hinges). |

The Aurion is not exactly what you'd call 'dynamically competent'. It's more like 'a rather sad excuse for a car'.
