Scammer from FS Section - BEWARE!

Hi all,

Just thought I'd warn you of a potential scammer emailing sellers in the Sales Yard.

I recently put up a listing for a Lightning strike FG bonnet & mirror and got an email from a "Evarest Marthins" saying that they have the parts I require.

I sent back an email asking about the location of the item and the colour and I got back a very suspicious email:

There's a few things that tell me this is a scam
1) Besides all else, the falcon is an Australian only built car - why would their be parts for it in the UK? Ash was never a FG colour anyway.
2) Bad grammar & spelling
3) Claiming that they have tried to call me. My number is clearly listed and I received no missed calls.
4) The real kicker - wanting payment via Western union and not through Paypal. Firstly I would not pay with Paypal for a large item like this, but even so, Western Union is completely un-reversible and carries no protection.

So guys just a warning to be careful. Avoid paying with Western union or any form of payment that's untrackable and unreversible.

If any mod could remove the email address from my WTB ad - I'd really appreciate it.

It may not have been someone who is a registered member.

I am sure a mod in the For Sale section, will remove your email address from your wanted ad as soon as they see this thread.

Thank you for letting the forum know you have been contacted in this way. It may also be an idea to forward the email you received to russellw.

And he's only selling the RHS of the bonnet

Is the LHS another 120GBP

I would string him along.. Ask him how much for the whole car shipped to australia..

Removed your email and phone number. Either has to be a member or got your email through another site?

Thanks heaps Auslandau for removing my details off that listing. I don't think the scammer found me through anouther site. Do guests have access to the WTB section?

Yeah he got me until the whole UK shipping and Western Union bit. What a dumbass! I'm not fooled that easily

I'm so tempted to do so! I've got a few tricks up my sleeve thanks to this site. But then again I don't want to receive a bazzilion "FRWEE VIAGRA" and "U GONNA GT SUED BY PAYPAL ND UR GVRNMNTS 4 NT SENDAN ME MUNEY" emails

Anyway thanks everyone for the help. I'll forward "Evarest Marthins" (wtf kinda name is that anyway) email address to russelw. Hope no one else gets done over by this fool.
