I'm currently qualified as a dogman, but keen to get my crane ticket. Is a franna a good place to start? Is there much employment around for franna drivers? Does anyone know the cost of a Franna ticket and how long the course is?

V Gate - I've had my doggers ticket for about 4 or 5 years now. I did have a 2 year break when I changed employment, but now I do it daily.

so now you have access to a crane get some hours up behind the wheel on log book then you can have the assessor come out and give you the test. tractor cranes give you a good skill set to start out on your crane career.

ozfast - I'm not hired as a dogman. I'm a lining technician, but I'm the only person there besides the 3 crane drivers (2 that are Philipino and barely speak english) that knows the hand signals etc... And most of the crane drivers aren't at our yard, or they're busy doing other jobs, because they are not primarily crane drivers. So if I want to do a job or get stuff done, I have to wait for ever for a crane driver to come help.
v-gate - The whole assessor dealio and getting up hours, how does it work? If you can give me a brief run-down of what I can put forward to my supervisor, then that would help me heaps. The company I work for won't know the answers to any questions I have, and if I ask them to find out for me they will say that they will, but actually won't. Hence the reason I wanna do it all off my own back, just to get it done. Because I know for a fact that if I don't look into it and do all the research etc... and offer to pay for it myself, then they simply won't help me out, even though it will in turn help them out. I'm set on getting my ticket, and I wan't to do it, so I'll do it my own way if I have to, so I'm just looking for some info and advice.

with the log book note every hour spent in the crane and what you were lifting then have your supervisor sign off at the end of the day. it would be nice to see 100hrs up but you will probably get away with 50-60 hrs.
even when you do a course they are not ment to give you a ticket without a log or a letter from your employer stating you have been operating but they do because the mob down the road will. the assessor comes out gives you a written and practicle test and if you pass its off to motor reg to get your pic taken and keep your log book or at least a copy its your proof that you have done it the correct way. the test was dogging plus non slew mobile crane so if you cant remember your dogging id say do your log and then do the course. they are good for refreshing your head. |
