Default Selling car interstate.

Hi all.

I'm sure this has been asked a few times, but I can't find an exact answer. Plus getting a reply straight from someone for you're direct question is good piece of mind.

I live in QLD and I'm selling my car. I have a guy from NSW interested and is willing to take it asap. I know if I sold it to someone in VIC, a RWC from QLD is useless, he would have to get his own equivalent before renewing the rego while in VIC.

Is it the same for NSW? Or will I need to get a RWC here in QLD before selling it to someone in NSW?

(He wont be driving the vehicle back, but freighting it, the rego runs out in 1 week and he'll just transfer/renew the rego once he gets the car)

Thanks for the help guys.

99.9% sure it's the same here.

It's sold by you as is, no rego, no RWC.

That's good news. I called QLD Transport today to verify that with selling to VIC, but stupidly forgot to ask about NSW, and it's to late to call them now.

I will call them again tomorrow to make 100% certain (Just in case the deal with the Vic guy falls through), however I thought I'd ask on here for now just for a bit of reassurance until then.

Thanks a lot GasOLane, I appreciate it.

QLD rego is worthless in NSW, have to get it blue slipped and pay for NSW rego,

you can drive the car on QLD rego for up to 3 months after that it must be regoed in NSW unless you are not a resident of NSW.

So no point getting QLD inspection as it will need to get another here in NSW

Excellent, so a QLD road worthy is just as useless in NSW as it would be in VIC.

Thanks to you too something wrong, appreciate it.

I believe that whether the QLD Saftey certificate is of use to him or not (and I don't think it is) you are still able to sell the car "as is"

Just be sure to capture that in the reciept you give him.

Eg. Car is sold as is with no Saftety Certificate and no registration.
