No, but you will have to pay an exiting fee.
I went from AAMI to RACV, which cost me $30 I think (maybe it was more), but the difference in insurance premium was $100.

It would depend on the wording of the policy but the short answer is no. If you miss a payment, chances are they would cancel the policy immediately... its been many years since insurance companies paid pro bono policy claims.

But an even better approach would be to ring them and cancel. There may be a minimum number of months in advance or something silly like that.

Dont forget to tell the securities register/bank if there is finance outstanding on the car when you change insurers!!

Generally if you are on PBTM you won't be charged a cancellation fee. (You will if you are paying annually).

Best to read the PDS they send out with your policy documents.

TIP: If you are transferring, mention you're leaving your current insurer and query if they are willing to pay the cancellation fee that you are being charged. If they want your business they will generally do it.

Hope that helps,
David

Ok just got insurance, $25 leaving fee and they will refund any payments made in advance.

Thanks for those who replied, cheapest insurance I could get was 2515 but they don't do pay by month and I need the insurance tomorrow. So i went with NRMA who's 3100 per year but allow pay by month. As soon as I have the full amount I'll change to Just Car

Just did an estimate, to put some perspective on how effed it is, if i had a Stock N14 Pulsar SSS worth 12,000, my yearly insurance would be 4584 per year.

Jesus Christ. That's huge insurance.

I'm gonna do an estimate of what it would cost me as of right now.

EDIT - Through RACQ, no mods, just come off the factory floor, 21 y.o, no claims, RACQ Member, rating 2.

$1183.75 a year.

That's insurance for me for your exact same car BlackLS.

These posts make me extremely happy with my insurance.
2004 BA Futura wagon, 30yo, rating 1 for life, Bendigo Vic...$350 which includes $65 for windscreen cover through RACV!

Something like this could make you think twice about what type of car you buy. Could also influence where you buy a house...what is house and/or contents insurance like?

:( I'll contact Shannons but I'm not hopeful. I guess I deserve it due to my stupidity with my previous car.

that is a stupid price, I wouldn't even bother getting a car worth ~28k if my insurance was nearly 10% of the total cost. Thats nuts!

Hmm..$25 per month for me. OK its just an e-series but it does everything I want.
