2008 TDCI done 90000kms.
Need to get it in and get brakes done front and rear-never been touched. How much will it cost stock parts and labour non Ford service people approximate? |

have you checked how mutch is left on the pads, mine lasted longer than 90,000. Still never changed the rear & have done 110,000 plus track days.
The minimum thickness of the pads is 1.5mm. The disc thickness is 25mm when new & should be repaced when it reaches the minimum thickness of 23mm or is heavily grooved You can buy the parts at supercheap/repco or other brake places & change them yourself if can use a screwdriver & allen keys. I can post a how to if you would like. |

Thanks Neale. I,m hopeless mechanically even though my dad was a mechanic.
The guy I will use is pretty trustworthy, you must do a lot of straightline motorway work like me. |

Just got my LV focus back from its 35k service and was told there was 70% thickness on front but 50% on back. When I asked if he was sure it wasn't the other way round he said it was a characteristic of the car to wear the rears faster than fronts. I'm still not convinced.
Would like to see a 'how to' Neale if you have the time. How different is the stopping hardware between models?

more than a few focus owners on here (me included) had the rears wear out before the fronts - I thought the handbrake was stuck or something like that and i can tell you I wasn't BSing because I inspected the pads and rotors (and then later changed them) myself couldn't give you a definite answer why but the factory equipment rotors all round don't last too long. it would appear they to wear out about the same rate as the pads remember that the front rotors and pads are larger and thicker while the rears and smaller and thinner which is why it's not always a good idea to cheap out or go lower grade on rears - just my experience thus far on the focus so far |

I got my front and rear discs for $325 (off ebay, picked up from a place in north west melbourne), bought pads off ebay (USA) for ~ $120 and got everything fitted at my local Ultra Tune (with Major service, included in price) for $350ish. I think the brakes themselves (labour) was only about $100 - as you only pay for time spent since supplying own parts.
Total cost (for better than stock) ~ $550.

My original brakes wore out on the rears before the fronts. And it wasn't BS, I also saw the proof with my own eyes.

More like issues with the hand brake system in the rear calipers not releasing quite enough.

it is fact that some cars will wear the rears out quicker than the front.

Alot of Focus' and Mondeos I've seen have worn the rears out quicker than the fronts.
For instance one of our vehicles at work wore the rear pads out in just shy of 60k and the fronts are still good at >75000km. |
