It always gets me though with some of these cars how expensive some of the options are on an already expensive car.

matte paint on the Maserati is a $20,500 option, it is 'special' paint though

What about some of the prestige performance makers where when they do a "special" that strips out a lot of the stuff, you pay more for taking home less features...

That would be it...20g is the to cover any panels that need to be reprayed if there is any perfections found, unlike the normal colours where dirt can be cut out and the paint buffed up.

Yep, remember that Porsche on Top Gear where Clarkson mentioned a "few little issues to remember" about that matt paint rubbish infesting some prestige cars? The list of things you can't do included not leaving it wet, not taking it through carwashes, not letting bird crap sit on it for more than a couple of minutes, etc etc...is it really worth the trouble?
