Do it anyway, as long as you're not firing towards any buildings blah blah etc etc.

5 acres. Ride a horse or walk the dog, but fgs don't shoot there. Go to a State Forest or a Rifle Range.

Real shooting fun can be had in the Reserves. And it doesn't cost, in fact they pay you! I did 5 years.

I once jammed a F89 on a platoon range shoot, right at the end of a competition and when I was set for first or second place. It was hot and it nearly cooked the jammed round. V dangerous. It could throw 200 rounds downrange in less than 2 minutes.

The F89 blurb: http://www.oocities.org/bairdj/minimi.htm

At the start of training its heavy. After a few weeks it magically becomes lighter. Its all relative. I saw a few grunts at singleton one day I visited, they were doing their training and they were in twos or threes (in full kit with weapons) rolling Mog tyres up hill and and down dale on a 5k course closely followed by angry NCOs with stopwatches and tasers (or something like tasers, 'cause those guys were running). It had to be a secret fitness weapon for the fulltime Inf Corps (god bless
em), because the place had rows of trucks that could've easily moved the tyres.

By the sounds of it you were doing more than 2-3 round bursts if you were firing at that rate. Also sounds like you forgot to oil it enough.

Firing the Mag 58 is way better than a minimi.

Unless you have a air riffle, I would not be shoting on 5 acres it is way to small.

Or a shotgun, or a 22 std velocity.

Don't believe all the stories about all firearms being able to hit targets miles away.

depends on the state you live in, but generally the answer would be don't shoot there. There are laws about discharging within so many meters of roads ets.
Subsonic air rifles come to mind, but I never said that.

Nice! Far out, I wish I had no neighbours! I have to have the Vox right down barely on. It's really hard to get the best sounds out of it at that volume.

I just replied to another unrelated post and it reminded me of an infrequented pastime that I thoroughly enjoy: Walking through burial cemeteries, reading epitaphs, admiring the monuments and family crypts that people build for their loved ones. It's rather peaceful to do this.

No, I'm not into necrophilia or stealing flowers!

I only just saw this thread. All my RC stuff. My fiance and her family all say I am a child and they are toys. Whilst they are "toys" in a sense. When is the last time you saw a "toy" capable of removing your head?

When I buy an RC "toy" for my kids, it really is a toy, cheap and nasty and not dangerous in the least. My "toys" however are currently insured for well over 5k.

Sold this a short while ago:

Built London, 1978: 500 Jeffery Rimless. Left hand stock on a right hand K98 fully engraved action, kept in the 'white'.
One of a kind by a custom London gun maker. I had it thirty years & was able to part with it to a friend.

The 22-250 cartridge is for comparison purposes. Yes the big girl gave you a shove, 115 ft lbs of free recoil. She weighed in at 12.8 lbs so around 98lb of felt recoil. A big contributor to the effects of recoil on the shooter in these big firearms these day with modern smokeless powders is the 'jet effect' caused by big charges of slower burning powders.

Got my first firearm for my fifth birthday - at one time there were 57 firearms in the house...... Somewhat less than that now.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, mate. I wasn't using it anymore, not that I used it much anyhow. We don't have large game in Oz except the Asian Buff & these can be bowled over with calibers smaller than this. I was in contact with the builder a few years ago, he is still working, as a matter of fact.
Rifles & firearms of this quality don't have an owner, we are just custodians for a little while. News of it being on the market caused much interest in GB, Europe & the US at the time.
I'm too old to burn 100gns of powder with each squeeze these days, so she is in the home of a mate of mine interstate.

yep, not sure if i should be proud or ashamed of this, but we used to shoot low felicity .22's in a suburban backyard around 20 years ago

there seemed no chance they would penetrate what we were shooting into - thankfully we were not proved wrong
