Default Car hire request

As this is a rather diverse forum i was wondering if anyone works in car rentals.

I guess this request will only apply to the bigger international companies.

My girlfriend is going to the UK in november and we want to hire her a car from manchester airport..... No problems there but the catch is she is 24.

Because of this she gets slugged with the young driver rip.....sorry, excess which basically doubles the costs!

Any one work in the trade that is able to help out??

Are you paying an optional premium to reduce your excess or is the base hire fee more due to age? If number 1, most travel insurance policies include 3-4k for hire car excess.

Hertz's U25 surcharge is £30/day capped at £300.

How long she needs the car for?

Its the "young driver fee", absolute rort if you ask me.

She needs the car for 3 weeks but the issue is it doubles the cost of the car hire as she is 6months to young.

Owch.

What about niche providers that focus on the younger / backpacker market? You may end up paying normal prices for a car that is perhaps a little older???

Don't forget that hiring from the Airport could be a LOT more expensive than from the normal office.
