It rained a bit this morning and min temp was 23c!!

They need a good dose of real cold up here

I have noticed that Tourists outnumber real locals (not working backpackers) and rental cars seem to number local ones.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

Went for a drive to Mareeba today, via Mossman. They've got some serious Mango farms up there, especially the one that makes Mango Wine

We bought a dozen mixed. Fortunately they can send them home so we don't have to worry about excess baggage, what I do have to worry about is that they use StarTrack !!

Came back via Kuranda, isn't that a scary drive down the hill ?

I don't mean the road, just the idiots who think that 4WD means Four Wheeled Daredevil.
And Tradies!....I thought Tradies were bad around my place (where it's flat) but here they all think they're Craig Lowndes doing a Hillclimb whilst chatting on a mobile!

That sure is the problem with the range these days.
It's best taken at a time when there's not too much traffic around and those times are getting few and far between.
My young fella is on his Ls and I took him up and down there last weekend. That was fun but he did really well in spite of some of the *********.

Ain't that the truth, everytime I have been up there it has also been the same, so is the road up into the mountain's (Mt Molloy Rd) just north of Pt Douglas, the last time I was up there, there was a car into the tree's with police tape around it.

I'm a doctor in Cairns Base, just had a guy got wiped off his motorbike by a car in the Kuranda range come by us - totaled his spine in 3 places, dislocated 3 fingers in his right hand, cut his thigh and smashed his knee.

He's a paraplegic.

Beware the range...

We're departing here (Pt Douglas) tomorrow and going down to Cairns -ok Palm Cove, but it's close enough- for the next week.
We'll be going back up to Kuranda but the tourist way, Train up Skyrail down.

So if we see you Doc it'll be for Stinger or Sunburn treatment only.......... hopefully

I admit that I do like having a bit of a spin up the range but if you wanna do that kinda thing you have to pick your times - usually early in the morning if that's your prerogative, but you should share the road with everyone else.

It's sad that nobody's got any patience these days and if you get stuck behind someone slow then tough luck!

At least you arrive alive at your destination..

For the locals up here this is old news but I wonder if it's been told down south (Even a Camry driver like Auslandau isn't this dumb.)

It seems someone missed the ferry across the Daintree river by a few feet and finished up in the river. This is the same river we were watching 3metre Crocs this week just 500metres from the ferry.

Yes he was from Vic and slightly over the limit PCA was .165!

Reminds me of late night blasts up Kuranda in the XR6 against my mates VL.

I'm one of the crazy downhillers you see on the range too....driven that road hundreds of times!

Maybe he was listening to the GPS as like the Chinese tourists up in Queensland not long ago that rented a vehicle and the GPS told them to go straight ahead at a dead end road, to which they did and ended up in the ocean, Must be something in the water up that way..
