I went to run after dog on Monday evening and felt like someone hit me on the kneecap with a sledge hammer ,could not stand so called for ambulance ,the ambo,s were really good and diagnosed the problem .Had about a one hours surgery the next day to repair the damage ,had to bore holes in kneecap . Will have knee brace and crutches for next ten weeks .Surgeon said we should not run when we get to my age [about 60 ]

Ouch !!!!! running puts a lot of stress on the body, i think mid forties would be the limit and if you do want to run do it on grass and not in the morning when the joints aren`t as lubed.

Did it happen out of the blue or was the knee giving warning signs?

What is your running form like? Does your foot strike with the heel, mid-foot or toe? Have you been running for a while, or taken it up recently? |

Was giving serious thoughts of a lead microchip but she has a reprieve as I actually think she knows something is wrong with me .In the past I did live a fairly active life with my shed building occupation but must admit I have slowed down over past twelve months

One month on and not a lot of change on the recovery path.Turns out since original post it was not patellar tendon but quadracep tendon above knee not below .Still not allowed to walk without brace on knee and unable to bend knee more than about 60 degrees without a lot of pain .
