CLIVE Palmer's big dinosaur, Jeff, will have some vintage company when a new motor museum opens at the Palmer Coolum Resort on Saturday.
Palmer Motorama will be open for guests of the resort and visitors daily, from 11am to 4pm. It will be temporarily housed in the resort's Pavilion, until February, while construction of its permanent home is finished. About 40 vintage vehicles from Mr Palmer's personal collection will be on display, with some stunning examples of engineering and luxury motoring through the ages. Rolls Royce devotees will be thrilled at what is in store, as will anyone who has dreamed of owning the power and panache of a 1954 Aston Martin. Palmer Motorama manager Craig Gunnis said the museum would house a fascinating collection of vintage cars that will immerse visitors in the romance of days gone by. "We have hand picked a selection of cars to put on display initially, but this is only a fraction of what we will have on show at the museum's permanent home later in the new year," Mr Gunnis said. "The display will be built up over the coming months as cars arrive from overseas. "Palmer Motorama will be a great place for the whole family to visit to experience the history and romance of cars and motoring from the early 1900s to the modern era," Mr Gunnis said. "There will be lots of information on each vehicle and we will have one vintage car set up so guests and visitors can have their photographs taken inside. From Monday to Friday at midday there will be a guided tour hosted by our vintage-car mechanic, which will be both informative and entertaining. "It is very rare that private car collections of this scale are put on public display, but Professor Palmer has been very keen to share these wonderful vehicles, and their history, with the local community."
