yes I converted the car to LPG years ago (straigh GAS) luckily i still have all AIrcon setup and most original AIT hardware eg: throttle bodys, extra injectors But the car will be going threw a big overhual around mid year (ill start a project thread soon also ) but under bonnet it will be going back to the original petrol setup and Air con setup will go back in

great read i enjoyed that story here are a few snap shots few boys from the ESP forum took of the AIT ESP in the superoo wreckers in WA in 2007
from your story it does sound like the car you describe ( as its all white ESP with ghia moulds and has been painted charcoal on lower section

Last time i was at superoo(mid last year) one of the boys told me the windows were left down at one stage on the esp,i just cringed at the thought. Its a bloody shame.
One of the nicest esp,s i have ever seen was a manual 4.1,like a burnt orange and charcoal colour.Ended up going to kalgoorlie to be changed to a clevo...

Been looking at the pics of the red AIT car above.

My white one had the same seats (dunno why I had tartan in mind)

You can see the 2nd compliance plate on the drivers side near the bonnet strut, for some reason I recall the plate on mine was on the other side, next to the factory one.

The red car has an intercooler, looks like a later addition (not from AIT).
Mine didn't have an intercooler, maybe that was part of the problem.

No power windows on a Fairmont Ghia? How did that happen?

electric windows was an option on the ghias you had to pay a little more wen u ordered ure new car for that option

yes your right Cambo AIT never had any intercoolers for there XD ' XE turbo kits (but they did on the EA Falcon AIT kits
you could get the EA kit in a stage 1 stage 2 or stage 3 max power for the EA falcon turbo ) ,

I put the cooler in my self along with the custom intake pipes and the LPG
as it was my every day driver at one stage and i wanted little more power out of it . but the car is now unreg and i will put all original petrol gear back on very soon will be an intresting project.

ill post a copy of some original info on these cars by AIT have a look at the power outputs from the kits on the Ford 6cyl

Sorry Cambo351, I knew from your description that the Superoo one was your old one... It is very far gone.

Why didnt they keep the turbo going after dropping the V8 in the XE? Would have thought that would be a no brainer.

The problem was, Turbos were still quite infant then...and Ford couldn't warrent the engine life etc. There was also questions about under bonnet heat and cooling etc. Anf i guess all money that would be spent to properly engineer a factory product coundn't be justified when the main concerns were economy...

one of the main problems on these cars was is Clutch wear and tear on manual gear boxes and Automatics were just as bad due to the increase in Torque in the long run they could not handle the extra torque

they did run a heavy duty clutch and the Autos do have a transmission cooler ( also on the Auto cars you will find the dip stick on the passenger side of engine bay instead of usual place because of the turbo kit )

for FORD warranty reasons they could not modify the engine or Transmission internals
these cars ran 10psi boost and made close to 500NM torque and the engines were just your normal 4.1 engine
AIT did install a decompression plate in between the block and the head
and the distributors were re curved apart from that there stock 4.1 engines

also other problems i can say was

I'd buy a cheapie in a heartbeat if I found one. Keen to do a resto on an XE, a turbo 6 with all the ESP goodies would be the ultimate!
