Default How to Post Photos

Hi All
Could someone please provide some advice on how to reduce the file size of my photos so I can post them on the forum. Every time I attempt to post I get a message stating they are too big. I have tried cropping and converting from jpeg to giff. Any other ideas or tips please?

Your OS (eg Windows) might have a basic photo editor or you can use something like Photoshop or Fireworks to resize it and / or play with the compression / quality setting (a lowering of 20%-30% has a major effect on file size and hardly any loss of quality) when exporting as JPG.

I use faststone photo viewer, free download from download.com. Simple to use & you can do custom resizing.
