It was blocked to work as a sound deadener. Like an intake resonator. Mine was one of the original factory ones that had the twin pipes all the way through. Made SFA difference.

In the ACT, you pay more for things than in other cities. Your $300 equates to $400 in Canberra. We don't have 5000 exhaust shops around canberra, like Melbourne & Sydney.

I rekon better then the stock exhaust.. I didn't understand the dual setup on the VCT, didn't look like it flowed that well.. But Im not engineer or machanic and when I ran FPV they said they didn't know why it would be set up like that...
Thats the way my system is. I got confused when I saw the 2 pipes, but ened blocked off. I think it was a way for ford to use the excess exhausts left over from the 8's. Lazt bastards.

Jeffro will look after the guys from the club. So for the work he's doing, he's gonna make sure its done right. At least we can trust him. Not like a lot of other places.

Yours is a '98 build ain't it...

Must be something they changed in later ones cause mine is AU1 but 99 build...

I'm not 100% to be honest. I originally thought the previous owner may have done it (yet not a single other mod...didnt make sense)
It wasnt till last year before I got the full system I saw another 3 XR6's (all AU1) that had the identical twin tips as mine. To me that says that the factory VCT exhaust was originally a twin tip setup that was changed at some early point.

Do you have a resonator at the rear after the second pipe is blocked? I know mine had a resonator with 2 pipes in and 2 pipes out on it.

No worries. Either way, the VCT stock system really isnt that restrictive except for the headers.
If I had been able to get headers that work as well as the JMM Race headers and still been a std size I probably wouldnt have changed my stock cat back system.
I'm not really into the noise side..Bluedriver is right...an I6 is and I6, it will never have the noise of a V8. It is what it is. Loud I6's usually sound crap anyhow. Of course, not sounding like a V8 doesnt mean it cant be as fast as a lot of them :p

In the end the headers are the killer...the VCT needs to breath just like any other engine.

I have to agree with Bluedriver again too, I'd get the whole lot done in one go too (actually, I did) as sounding nice is ok but it really needs the balls to back it up....and that needs headers.

yep Casper I can only back you up from my own experience trying to get I6's sound good, lots of wasted $$$ and could never get it right....they still GO great but it just not meant to be.

I'll be going the headers soon.

I got the car back. Instantly I noticed the different. Sounds pretty good. At steady idle with a little acceleration, the note is realy quite deep. Pretty happy with that. Its not till you give it some currie, that the sound of the 6 comes through. Overall, pretty happy with it. Definatley now know its not an 8, where as before, it was muffled and it didn't have much of any sound. I can actually hear the car in the cabin. Yay.

Headers are next, followed by the pig pipe. Somewhere in there is the XR50 front

Somewhere in there is the XR50 front

I think there's a few of us that'll be lining up for that.

I was told the sound is pretty good, but hadn't heard it from behind as the car leaves. Tonight I heard it. Gotta say, it sounds really good from out of the car. I'm impressed now with the sound.

So bucky. Your car looks good, sounds good, but still goes like a 6! Mine, on the other hand, sounds great, looks OK, goes like a 6 with a V8 in it (ie it still gets beaten by a 6. Casper's - on paper, anyway). Must be all your old parts that are now on my car that are holding me back.

And mine looks average....sounds nice (for a 6) and goes like a V8 with a 6 in it. So if we can blend all 3 together we would have one hell of a car.
