Welcome to ford forums...Great to have you here mate.
Personally, I like the XH panelvans. If you can see if you can find one without the side windows as they tend to be much more desirable. Also, If you can find one with the upper and lower tailgates rather than the usual barn doors then that would be even better. Come to think of it I can't say I've ever seen a windowless XH panelvan but I'm sure such a beast probably exists somewhere.

One that is in original paint, would be the best bet. You don't want any nasty surprises 12 months down the track. The roof gutters rust pretty bad.

Very true...Especially if it has had tradies full length roof racks fitted to it.

the k frame in the xh is the same as the ef el v8 and engine bolts straight in ,although all xh's run the log manifold so clearance could be an issue ,el instruments cluster fits straight in ,all police vans ran xr,fairmont cluster ,they have plastic roof vents at the rear ,the XH never came with no side windows or the up and over tail gate the last one to have that was the XD van (look for rust under side windows gutters above back doors & bonnet hinges under wiper panel , The XH is by far the best van ford ever produced ,i had 3 for my business & they were very reliable

I'd go for the XH purely for the rack and pinion steering. XD through XG uses the old recirculating ball steering box and has a turning circle bigger than the USS Nimitz.

I've had xf, xg, xh and now a holden combo. The xg was my favourite because you can have the fuel efficiency/reliability of the sohc engine and still bolt on the old sheet metal. I had FE ltd front end on my xg. Definitely recommend getting rid of the barn doors and swapping to a tailgate. I could never stop the barn doors from rattling. Drove me nuts.

I've been looking into this again recently and my choice would be XH.
Newest possible model so in theory minimal chance of things going wrong and rust.
