Actually goes really good for a petrol. Was suprised my self. I just clicked over 1000ks in it. Its a little thirsty on the fuel but i suspect its because im still running it in. Was recomended to run 95 fuel in it. May cost more to fill as it has a 80 litre tank but i should benift from it on long trips

Im driving a brand new toyota 3.0 diesel dual cab 2wd and apart from the economy whats to like about them, I had a hired triton before this and prefered it and you could but a brand new dual cab 4wd for about 32k drive away not long ago, used abit more fuel but had more power than the toyota. If my xr8 ute got written off tomorrow thats what i would get. Sick of the low utes as i get older they are harder to get into if your tall. I hear alot of people saying this and am guessing that doesnt help the falcons cause to survive. Be good to see some real world economy figure for the ranger petrol though, keep us posted. Love the colour.

FG XR6 gets my vote... I had one for 3 years... Great work ute, comfortable, quick and looks good with your business name all over it.

Just don't get one with 19 inch rims :(

depends on how much weight you will be carrying. under 1T the falcon ( maybe ecolpi ) would be the most comfortable and would be best on a trip lets face it the ride of a Falcon is so much more refined. the different utes mentioned here suit different uses and you need to start with your needs including load size and match up from there.

In terms of weight the vehicle wont carry much, maybe 500kg overall. Its more the fact that theres about 20 different things that need to be there, at the moment I have 2 large toolboxes that hold it all but more space would be nice again. The other thing that would be good is to be able to lock the tray area so either option have that flexibility.

Thanks Nick, would love a PX but not willing to spend the $$ right now. I have driven a PK, not a PJ though but I didn't think there would be much difference. I have however found a lot of bolt on bits that should wake the 3L donk right up

I have a FG M2 Ecolpi XR6 ute with a canopy and roof racks and it works well for me. I travel 600- 1000km per week from Tamworth too Moree and further north sometimes. Getting gas is not a problem, you just need to do a little research before you go to a place you haven't been.

Although stay away from the PJ PK 2.5L diesels if you don't want to do major services every 20,000kms

Personally I'd go ranger. I had a look at one and was pretty impressed.

I heard Navara diesels are not too reliable.
5 guys at work have them and 3 of them have all had the same, expensive problem.

What about a Ranger? The single biggest purchaser of Hilux in aust, "Downer Group" made the switch from lux to Ranger maybe you should have a drive in one.

you will be flat out turning many from toyota.. most the guys on the mine sites Ive spoken to,that are now driving rangers. **** and moan about them..yet Ive driven my dads ranger, diesel.. sounds like an massey fergussen tractor..a few times... find it a little touchy on the throttle but otherwise not a bad vehicle at all to drive.. and alot more comfortable than my old boss's slow luxes.. and just as reliable.

as if youd take the word of some random mine worker. The ranger is more then a generation ahead of the hilux...and has won world ute of the year along with many local awards. You don't get that for nothing....especially the world awards. DRIVE ONE
Or you can go for an FG ute....also well ahead of the competition and has a fuel economy dominating gas option. ECO LPI
Cant loose with either I say
