Early Mk 1 only V6 cars get the "power bulge" Introduction of the "update" model saw all cars fitted with the bulge in the bonnet. The only update cars sold officially in Australia where the RS3100 specials.

At one stage, apparently Ford ran out of the flat bonnets and could only supply the bulged ones, my mate had to have a new bonnet fitted to his 1600 after an acident, you should have seen the smile on his face when the car came back with a brand new 'V6" bonnet.

Caprispecial is right! Without confusing anyone, ALL Australian (1969-1972) assembled 1600s had a flat bonnet, whereas the GT/V6s had the 'power bulge'. NO update models were ever assembled or released in Australia!

RS3100s were a stand alone 'improved' GT/V6 and were finished with all the update parts available (including some Mk2 parts) at the time of their assembly in November 1973 at the Halewood plant in the UK.

Looking forward to seeing pics of your capri!

My dad had a 1600 GT as his first car, he did a similar V8 conversion to the one youre planning, and it was from all reports a damn quick car in its day. His mates still talk about it! It was also vermillion fire.

He kept it for about 20 years and then ended up selling it, apparently mum had enough of trying to park and go shopping etc with 500+HP and a locker!!!

One thing i remember is as a kid always burning my butt on the hot black vinyl and seat belt clips

All the best with your build mate
