You may have already tried the PPSR as you mentioned it shows up as stolen, if you haven't I think this costs $3 from memory and may give you some more of an idea of what's going on. They take cards online for payment.
https://transact.ppsr.gov.au/ppsr/Se...hicle?v=Search Good luck with getting it all sorted mate.

Another thing to try is the Police - if it's coming up as stolen. When I was buying my XF (privately, QLD) in '93, there was what was called a REV (Registry of Encumbered Vehicles - replaced nationally by PPSR) I ran the check and the vehicle came up as stolen. I went to the local police station and told them what was going down. Gave them the rego, car, and alleged owners details to hand the bastard up. The officer came back and told me that all details were correct as far as owner/address/car were concerned and that the car had been reported stolen in Hervey Bay 4 years prior and was recovered the next day. I asked the question about the REV check, he just shrugged and said "The right hand doesn't talk to the left, it's all clear as far as we are concerned".
I asked the old bloke about it when I went to pay for the car after it was cleared up - "Me and the Mrs were up there on holidays, thought the car got stolen, turns out I forgot where I parked it". Police are well worth a try if the car is coming up as stolen, you might have to prove some family ownership lineage to you though. Times have probably changed since the '90's. Cheers!
