Frank,
I would say sell it off and reduce your mortgage. You don't know what might be coming out of FPV, especially in view of the uncertainty of post 2016, and you'd be well placed to take advantage of something which might tug your heart strings at that time. Would be a shame to see the white GT go though as every Friday I see your wife giving it TLC and know how well she keeps it!! (Truth is she'll probably lavish the same care and attention on a WRX!)

Agreed. This isn't a spelling or punctuation contest.

Her car her choice.
Let me guess she will be working for Suby and has option of taking new subies every 6 months and then it gets auctioned to the dealers. Just remember the grass is not always greener on the other side. |

And really why would you want another one in six months?? The first one would hardly be run in, and would still be brand new. I don't think I would want another car every six months. Really? Who mentioned contest?? Third grade spelling never goes out of fashion, my 8 year old knows the difference between right and write.

But back to the subject and more seriously, certainly don't do anything until she is settled in well and likes the job. But what people would think when she drives in and parks the GT every morning at Subaru? Maybe she will get given the Rex . Quote:

So we've gone from leasing anything you want to now just Subarus? Is the job for a dealer?
Is it a lease or the use of a demonstrator to take home which is probably not your choice of car but whatever is kicking around at the dealer? |

we'll just see how it eventuates , there is always the option of selling the xr6 instead and keeping the GT , Though thats the more costly option it's still an option , we went for a family drive in the gt today , even though it was on cruise control most of the way , those little squirts on overtaking and instant throttle response , v8 note , supercharger and presence of the GT are to die for if your a ford enthusiast , i even passed a REX . and having owned a ba gt and trading on a new GT , i can say maybe selling a gt and not having one at all , could bring regrets , good reading peoples opinions though aside from people who worry about spelling mistakes of course .

On the other hand, your mortgage sounds like its at quite a reasonable level, you've got two incomes and you're 44 years old so there's plenty of time to finish paying off your mortage. Sounds like you don't get to drive it all that often ? Maybe this is your opportunity to change that ? Think back to the reasons you bought it in the first place, spend some time with it, give it a good polish and take it for a really good long blast...then ask yourself if you really want to let it go, after all...if you work hard doesn't a hard working man deserve a good car ? Then there's the reality that the first two years of a car's life you cop a serious depreciation belting...why hand someone else a bargain ?? |

If selling the GT allows you to pay off your house in 2 year and subsequently purchase what will "potentially" be the last Falcon FPV's, I'd do it.

wouldnt it depend on how much the mortgage is? how much is left on it? the interest rate? if you are locked in? if you had a 400 grand mortgage it wouldnt be wise would it?? but if you had a 180 grand mortgage the repayments would be less than paying some rent prices in my area or you could try getting a personal load for the car.....and pay around 14% interest

5% interest over 25 years paid on $80k is approx $60k over the life. 15% interest over 7 years paid on $80k is approx $50k over the life. The game changes if you pay extra obviously. The home loan route increases your monthly payment by ~$450 The personal loan route calls for a monthly payment of ~$1500 If you took the home loan route, but paid the $1500 per month instead of the $450, then you'd be in front by a long way. |

if you're paying double digit interest for a secured personal loan then you're doing it wrong
