Had the Ford dealer install a tow pack to a LX TDCi Wagon and the rear parking sensors are continually activating. Shouldn't the installation ensure that this doesn't happen or do I have to remove the tongue (two bolts)?

You do not need to remove the tongue - the dealer has failed to program the car to recognise the tow bar fitment. Take it back to have it programmed.

I'll second JimStone's advice.
They didn't do it right !! I run with my towbar tongue in place all the time on my hatch (carpark deterrent attachment), with rear sensors working 'as expected' when no trailer in tow. i.e. check they don't just disable them all together !! |

ope126 - I presume you mean "can't get it right".
The dealer I bought the car new from in SYD got it right first time. Towbar fitted by them before delivery to myself. Sounds like a techie training problem. |

Returned to the dealer and 'fixed'. Is an improvement but still doesn't seem right. On some occasions reversing out of our driveway it seems to perform the way is it supposed to, then on others it has a continuos beep. Might try a city dealer next time I'm down there. Not sure techie training at country dealerships is up to speed.

Continuous beep occurs when you are *very* close to something, about a foot in the old language.
Beeping gets faster the closer you get, then continuous. True for both front and rear sensors. |
