Does the AU3 one tonner use a box style or pod style airbox?

Here's a couple of the G&D one, IMO the only one worth going for.
They are the best ones I could find on here.

Thanks Red. Think I'd still prefer the 2 extra cylinders, and a great looking bay like yours!

Cheapest way to go will be to do what JC has done.
I have some photos on my site if you want to take a look. Pretty self explanatory. http://members.optusnet.com.au/fullthrottle/mods.html

Here is mine on my EL FALCON. Using a 9in K&N Monster pod filter with 3in neck. Pics show pod exposed and then pod enclosed in factory box with a auIII XR8 snorkel feeding fresh cool air. Pod filter cost me $75 new from AmericanAuto's.
Cheers.... |

although mine is only pretty much standard, i have added an XR8 tickford snorkle, just because it looks good doesnt do much as i have a mixer ring restricting airflow at the throttle body. dyno results in my sig and extra pics in the transformation link.

I have been wanting to get a custom airbox setup for a while, but can't bring myself around to dropping the $600 odd they are worth. I guess this is the next best thing. Evan |

And so far so good, I haven't noticed any decrease in performance when in heavy traffic and the throttle response and power has increased compared to just the exposed pod or panel filter. Low down torque has also improved. And compared to the G&D $600 intake that uses a similar sized K&N pod filter, I think this probably works just as good. Here is a closer pic of the front of the airbox. cheers jjj. |

Thanks heaps jjj. I might see if i can find myself one of the 9" filters over the weekend. I might even see if i can some how fully conceal the filter within the box. I don't like my chances but i'll give it a shot.

Apart from that I have the v8/6t snorkel, and i'm planning on using 3" pipe from the box back. Is there much difference in a pod to a high flow panel? Just wanna know before I cut my airbox! Cheers Nic |

I used the 9in K&N pod filter because I have looked into one of these G&D intake kits and that's the pod filter they use. So I thought to myself that they would have spent countless hours on the dyno testing different pods and they found the 9in Big Berther K&N being the best. That's why it is now in my airbox, save myself some R&D costs. On a 6cyl EF-EL-AU(non VCT) I still couldn't see there being much difference on the dyno. Cheers.. |

Yeah no worries mate. But I spent over an hour trying different ways( brackets, intake pipes etc) to fit the K&N big berther into the airbox, but it was just about 1inch too long. So yeah I think you will end up doing what I have done. By the way the sqaure/rectangular hole you cut is about the same size as found on the BA XR typhoon airboxes. cheers... |
