Default Holden to follow Ford ? (if they don't get more funding)

Was wondering how long this would surface

http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and...o_follow_ford/

Quote:
The boss of Holden Mike Devereux says the company will follow Ford and shut its Australian factories if it doesn’t get a commitment for enough taxpayer support to maintain its local loss-making operations.

Why is it no surprise as to who the author of this article is?

What's his deal? It's his dream to give our industry the kiss of death, and exacerbate it's woes.

Don't get me started, because what I have to say about him will send the swear filter into meltdown and probably get me permanently banned.

Well he's realised his wet dream of hounding the Ford Australia to death, now it's time to work on that dastardly red team.

That's all right.
When finally everyone involved with manufacturing ANYTHING in this country is out of a job;
and can no longer afford to buy a newspaper to read his stories,
might he then think about what he has achieved.....

Nah, he'd probably just write it on cubicle walls in the hope it reaches the masses.
That's even if he realises that nobody but him can afford a paper.

I don't know what to think here, i know this bloke is known to be a negative nancy, but perhaps he's doing them a favour, i mean they could just go bust silently and finish operations, on the other hand holden are looking at pulling up stumps if they don't get money from somewhere, it's in the media that car makers are having battle to do business in Australia, they might at least get some funding out of it..

I can't help but think that Holden are milking this whole Ford situation to leverage greater assistance out of the government. Not that I'm against it, but after Ford made their announcement, Holden have been quite vocal about needing more support, even though GM (from what I have read) has already committed to keep manufacturing open here through 2020. I can understand Holden asking for the money, they design and build the cars, it's not easy in this country. Toyota on the other hand, with their glorified (and highly profitable) assembly plant and no R&D operations are still asking for a handout- as long as they are making profits like the $220M they made last year, I am against giving them any support and I think the government should focus their resources on keeping Holden in business.

Holden will simply use the liberal govt (when they get elected in september) as the reason why they will not continue to manufacter in Aust like Toyota will. Takes the heat off them as a manufacturer and puts the blame soley on the new government. Good on Ford though for not taking the easy option of announcing their closure post election. They put the interest of their employees, suppliers before their Brand value. A big tick for me.
