Replaced my rack 3 years ago with refurb unit, never saw anything like that. Didn't even know they had them! Is the filter inside the unit?

Ford used to get their racks reconditioned in Melb and when you buy one, a filter comes with it. I had one fitted once and I ended up throwing the bloody thing away. The filter cracked and emptied out the rack and pump. If you have a filter fitted I would suggest getting rid of the bloody thing and put a piece of steel pipe in it's place.

I bought a replacement reco'd Saginaw power steer pump for my XF when I got the power steer box reco'd. Nothing wrong with the pump, just was flush with cash at the time and decided to do it right. Repco had a deal at the time with Australian Power Steering where they would supply a filter for nix. I never fitted the filter, didn't see the need for it. It's still sitting in the boot of my XF sedan with other parts awaiting fitment. One day maybe.
