Default The angriest XP in the country?

As some of you may know, I work as a furniture removalist. This morning, myself and another bloke rocked up at a house in Hampton Park to pack the belongings of some old lady and her son. The first thing I spotted as we pulled into the street was this...

I don't know what was underneath it but the wheels were spot on for center under the arches and everything about it looked as though it was meant to be. Front and rear diffs, set up for full 4x4.

I banged on the front door to ask about it but no one was home. I know this same sort of thing was spat out of the factory as an XY but I've never seen any other model.

I've never looked at any XP as anything more than a cool looking cruiser, probably the finest example of a highway driver. But this thing looked tough. The number plates, PPLETR (People Eater) pretty much sum the whole thing up.

Just thought I'd post it up here.

The photos aren't the best quality because I took them with my phone, but you get the idea.

They are nice - looks like it is the ford equivalent of the Overlander kits on the older holdens, there is one floating around up my way over in WA too, it's blue tho.

The XP looks like the one here: http://www.geocities.com/earlyfalcon...simsxpute.html

The site says it has a mid mounted 289 : mated to a turbo 400 that is fitted with a Toyota transfer case. Chassis has been home made out of 3" box tube.

Plenty of other pics too. Here's an interesting one;

I only saw it from the outside and the interior through the window, but I reckon that's gotta be the same one. The interior is the same.

Close mate of mine has the XY one of these. They had Jeep running gear from memory & the 250ci is layed over to allow sump clearance on the front diff. I think there were 420 or so built (all in a beige colour) for the Qld electricity board when they were running the lines through outback Qld.
Shocking 3 speed box, crap suspension and wouldn't pull ya hat off. 3 years ago we put a 289 in it (still 3 speed) they were also plated as 1972 & had a lot of XA in them (seats etc) Collectors item maybe, but still a real slug!

I recall 431 being built of these. Yes it was Jeep runnning gear. Watched it on the History Channel last night. "75 Years of Ford Australia" very interesting doco.
