Previous record held by Rhys Millen at 9:46.164 and even though Rhys demolished his own record doing it in 9:02.192 minutes to have the record set by Peugeot almost a minute and a half quicker is absolutely astounding!! The speed at which they do the hill climb in the video is equally astounding, and though Sebastian is undoubtedly a supreme driver, I reckon the car in this case is just out of it's league. Wonder's will never cease and records will continue to not only be smashed by absolutely blown to bits, chewed up and spat out by the time recorded! Wonder what they'll do next year.. I would love to give this road a go before I die.

"Unlike internal combustion engines, which lose roughly one percent of power per 100m above sea level (which equates to about 30 per cent by the end of Pikes Peak), the electric engines remain strong throughout the climb."
Meaning if you start out with 652kw in your Peugeot by the time you reach the peak you've dropped to 456kw .. my puny 350rwkw would be nothing by the time I reached the top..

Not as good as it used to be now its Tarmac all the way up
The dirt road made it more exciting sliding through the turns so close to a massive drop

The man is a freak - no question. His record in the WRC will stand for a long time and I suspect this record won't be much different.
Cheers Russ

Peugeot need to apply some of that mental 'pull out all stops' performance engineering to a road car. Badly.

Having driven up pikes peak myself, I am amazed with the speeds they are willing to go. If you go to Denver, its a must. Do the drive too, the train is a bit pointless when in comparison.

Also, they don't just make cars, they make engines for quite a few manufacturers, including Ford and BMW. http://www.psa-peugeot-citroen.com/en

Let me state I am a massive Seb fan and think he is the greatest rally driver of my generation.
However, I would love to see the Pug driven at Pikes Peak by Rhys Millen, a season campaingner. More for curiousity than anything. |

Looks to be heaps left in the car and the driver, looked pretty easy going really as though he wasn't even really having much of a crack.

Not sure about that Trev, below are some quotes from Loeb and he was having a go.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the car is essentially a re-skinned "uncorked" WRC car, so there might not have been that much development work needed either. Quote:

Just seemed so safe and easy I guess...
Especially compared to this, this average lap speed has been busted by about 5mph since this - http://youtu.be/QVXc29ZgutI

This...
I didn't see one hint of opposite lock or oversteer (even though it's AWD) as I'd imagine if he's on the absolute limit there would be.

Looked to be leaving plenty of road in regards to lines too as in not pushing the envelope. Looks very pussy compared to Climb Dance etc.

I reckon he's holding back a bit so he can demolish his own record again next year..

I know Seb would still smash it if it was still a gravel road, so it would've been great to see him on that surface and compare it to Vatanen's drive.
I love the bit where he's full tilt but still is able to take one hand off the wheel to shield his eyes from the sun................big stones in that man...

True, but you could say the same watching a xy touring car compared to a FG V8SC.

Loeb's time is impressive but not unexpected as the Pike's Peak circuit is now fully sealed. I still prefer Vatanen's run as back then there was gravel, three pedals, a double H pattern gearbox and no driver aids.

I liked watching Monster Tajima's practice run in his mitsubishi sponsored EV. Unfortunately he had a fire on the day.
Something eerie about wacthing an electric car go so fast without all the noise of a combustion engine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LRFPo6pymY |
