Default Smokin engine bay

Hi,

Recently i replaced my head gasket and flushed the cooling system out. My dash temp guage remains in the colder range and never goes up past half way even after hours of driving.

My problem is that after driving for more than 1/2 hr, i have recently noticed that when i open my bonnet the bay is EXTREEMELY hot!! It never used to be, even when i touch the oil filler cap it almost burns off my hand!! Something must be wrong here.

The only thing i can think of is that somewhere there is a blockage in the cooling system and it is overheating the engine and not showing up on the temp guage. Is there any other sensors temp or otherwise that could indicate there is a problem? My extractors are also not heat wrapped but should not be transferring heat to my rocker cover, right?

Cheers,

Phil.

Hi mate, after letting the water out of your car, on re-fill some times you can get an air lock caused by the thermostat. Some thermo's have mechonisms to prevent this but others dont, after filling with water, making sure is full, take for a quick drive (which you have done) now recheck water level, if level is done this is probably your problem...

Other than this sorry i cant help. You did clean your head with a scraper to remove all old head gasket right?

Good luck.

When i replaced the head gasket i spent a considerable amount of time ensuring the surfaces were spotless and did a cooling system flush after it was all put together, i also replaced the thermostat for a new one.

my engine bay gets real hot.. to the point i can't really touch anything in the engine bay.
i wouldn't be worrying about it so much, heatsheild for the extractors would help though.

Remove radiator cap (when cold the start engine.
Put heater on max.
When the engine is at normal temp you should see the level drop in the tank, fill it up.
Put cap back on.

Also keep in mind that the bonnet mat will keep the engine bay temp up too.

You reckon bonnet vents would help get rid of some of this heat and are woth putting in?

Maybe, I fitted them to mine but it's not stock and generates more heat.

I'd try and flush out air lock before cutting holes in bonnet. Also clean leaves, etc from between radiator and condensor.

Instead of getting a bonnet vent, perhaps put some bonnet spacers so there is a bit of a gap behind the bonnet?
