I am entering three cars (hopefully) into the Beaudesert Show's demolition derby this September. Two of the cars will be entered in the main derby event and the other car will be entered in the restricted derby, (cars that are fuel injected). All work, except for the paint, has been carried out by my year 11 and 12 Automotive students in order to meet the derby requirements and here is the first 'cab off the rank' as it is almost finished.
I am not expecting this EB to win as the rack and pinion steering can be taken out easily with a moderate hit on the front wheels, as happened to last year's car. It has however, been invaluable as an educational activity for my students. The other car I am hoping to enter into the derby this year is an XB ute. Before anyone faints at the news of this sacrilege, be assured that the ute is in fairly poor condition and there is a distinct twist in the sub frame. I plan to have it painted in the 1977 Alan Moffat colours but may run out of time. I am however, confident that this ute can win the demolition derby... If it's ready in time... The third car in the restricted class is a 2002 Commodore wagon. I will post pics after the paint is clear coated. Last edited by superyob; 08-09-2013 at 08:45 PM. |

That's pretty cool that the students have to do the prep work - great rule!
As some of the students are year 12 I'll assume that some of them would have their P licence - do they get to drive in the derby? Good luck with it all anyway! Cheers.

Supershifty, students are not allowed to drive in the derby at all, but if they were, I would have no shortage of willing participants... I think a driver just has to be a minimum of 16 years old whether they have a licence or not...
This is my third year entering school prepared cars into the derby and I want to win! Last edited by superyob; 06-08-2013 at 01:21 PM. Reason: more info |

Here is the Alan Moffat style XB ute... I think I have almost convinced the team of students who prepared it to dress up as cheerleaders and whip up the crowd should it be picked to be judged in the crowd appeal or best paint job category...

try and find an xc bumper and enter as an xc, much bigger front bumper and some had an extra bar behind them stock, saved many a radiator in my old xb speedway car or was it an xc :-)
Goodluck, good to see some kids doing something without an "APP" |

This XB was converted to look like an XC except for the bumper. I am hoping that due to the scarcity of these old beasts that this car will be the strongest on the night because everything else will be made of plastic...
And yes, the students who work on these cars have some vague idea that mobile telephonic googlemaphones exist but they prefer to do something in the real world... |

Open a photobucket account and upload any pics you want to post there. Then just use a provided Photobucket link to attach them to your post, that's what I do.
